Why this image tool is private

Converting between image formats is decoding and re-encoding, which the browser does locally. Your photos are typically your most personal files, so keeping them off a server is a meaningful difference rather than a slogan.

Other tools in this category upload your file to a server, process it in the cloud, and return a download link. That means your document sits on someone else's disk — often with a retention window measured in hours. Here, the file is read by your browser, transformed in memory, and saved straight back to your disk. You can watch it happen in the live check above: the counter for files uploaded stays at zero.

    Frequently asked

Will converting to PNG improve the quality?
No. JPEG is lossy, so the damage was done when the file was first saved. Converting to PNG preserves exactly what the JPG currently contains, without adding further loss — it cannot recover detail that was already discarded.
Why is the PNG so much bigger?
PNG is lossless and stores more data per pixel. A photograph that was 200 KB as JPG can easily be 2 MB as PNG. That is expected, not a fault.
When is PNG actually the better choice?
When you plan to edit and re-save repeatedly, when you need sharp text and line art, or when you need transparency. For photographs you intend to keep as photographs, JPG stays smaller.
Does it add a transparent background?
No. A JPG has no transparency to begin with, so the PNG fills the whole frame. To place the subject on transparency you would need a background-removal tool first.
